Overview
Kate Chopin (1850–1904) wrote the short story “The Storm” as a sequel to “At the ‘Cadian Ball” in 1898, but the story did not see publication until The Complete Works of Kate Chopin came out in 1969
. Some biographers argue that Chopin chose not to seek an outlet for the story, which includes some of her most sexually explicit writing. Others contend that shepherding her novel, The Awakening, to its 1899 debut was Chopin’s priority during 1898.
