Overview

Shane, a Western novel by American author Jack Schaefer, was published in 1949 and is set on the Wyoming frontier during the late 19th century. The narrative revolves around Shane, a mysterious and skilled gunslinger who becomes entwined with the lives of the Starrett family, particularly young Joey. As tensions rise between homesteaders and cattle barons, Shane's presence brings both hope and conflict. Schaefer's novel explores themes of honor, justice, and the struggle for survival. Shane was adapted into a critically acclaimed film by George Stevens in 1953.
