Overview

O Pioneers!, published in 1913, is a novel by Willa Cather that tells the story of the Bergsons, a family of Swedish immigrants, as they struggle to make a life for themselves on the Nebraska prairie. The novel is divided into five parts, each of which corresponds to a different period in the life of the novel’s protagonist, Alexandra Bergson. O Pioneers! is the first novel in Cather’s Prairie Trilogy, which also includes The Song of the Lark (1915) and My Ántonia (1918).
