Overview

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a comedic science fiction novel by British author Douglas Adams, first published in 1979. The novel follows the misadventures of the hapless human Arthur Dent after he is saved from Earth’s destruction by Ford Prefect, a friend who turns out to be an alien. It was adapted into a novel from a 1978 BBC radio series and received four sequels, including The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and Life, the Universe and Everything. The work was adapted into a film starring Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent in 2005.
