Overview
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a comedic science fiction novel by British author Douglas Adams, first published in 1979
. The novel follows the misadventures of the hapless human Arthur Dent after he is saved from Earth’s destruction by Ford Prefect, a friend who turns out to be an alien. It was adapted into a novel from a 1978 BBC radio series and received four sequels, including The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and Life, the Universe and Everything. The work was adapted into a film starring Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent in 2005.
