Mourning Becomes Electra is a play by Eugene O'Neill that was first performed in 1931
. The play—which is comprised of a trilogy of pieces named “Homecoming,” “Hunted,” and “Haunted”—represents O’Neill’s retelling of the Aeschylus’s Oresteia trilogy, set in the aftermath of the American Civil War rather the Trojan War, although some critics also see parallels in Mourning Becomes Electra to Oedipus trilogy by Sophocles.
