Overview

First published in 2014, “On the Bridge” is American author Todd Strasser’s best-known short story. The story’s action takes place almost exclusively on the titular bridge over a busy highway. Seth is an insecure, inexperienced teenager who hangs around the tough-acting, rebellious Adam, hoping to learn the secrets of being cool. Instead, Seth learns a harsh life lesson about masculine posturing, bravery, and betrayal. This coming-of-age story also teaches the value of being yourself and doing the right thing.
